First Watercolor

I've been watching the ART shows on CREATE TV a PBS station. Jerry Yarnell and Frank Clarke have been teaching watercolor. I also took a class at Jerry's Artarama. I decided to paint an ocean scene with sunrise. This is an ACEO on watercolor board. This is my First ever attempt at an actual watercolor painting.

I've been missing lately because this summer the community cut ALL trees down.  All we have now are either very tall Palm trees or tiny starter Palms (to replace the trees).  My back room (work room for all my crafts from sewing to scrapbooking to painting) is too hot even with the blinds closed. It is impossible to work now.  I am looking for another place to live. It has been 80s, 90s, 100s (summer), even into December.  I need not only the blinds to be open so I can look outside, but a cooler environment to work in.  I have a small condo so it is impossible to move the workroom anywhere else in the house.

So many diverse artists on Paint Party Friday. . .be sure to visit them all.

I hope everyone had great holidays.
Blessings,
Janet
I didn’t come this far to only come this far.

  2. I love the soft washes and gorgeous color scheme of your delightful watercolor oceans cape. I'm sorry to hear about your enduring the heat wave in your condo, and hope you find a quick and easy solution. Happy PPF!

  3. I like the watercolor, Janet. Now that you've gotten your feet wet, I hope to see many more watercolor paintings from you. What a shame about the trees! I always hate to see a tree cut, but having it affect you this way doesn't seem right.

  4. I enjoy watching those art instructors too. Lovely scene you painted. So sorry to hear it's been made so uncomfortable for you to art. Did they tell you why they took the trees down? And do they know the consequences of their doing I wonder...

  5. Your painting is so lovely. What a terrible thing to cut down all the trees. I feel for you, and so hope you find a new place that has all that you need to be comfortable and creative too.

  6. Well, your first watercolour came out really well! I love the colours. Why on earth did they cut all the trees down!? What a shame! And a real pain for you! Hope you'll find a new place to live soon! (maybe that little yellow cottage ... ;-))

  9. Lovely water colour with a wonderful colour combination! So sorry about the heat. Something similar happened to me completely out of the blue they cut the tree down in my back yard... I was stunned and it has affected our quality of life in the summer...it's been several years now and although they replaced the big one, the little one doesn't give off enough shade! So I hear ya girl... summer can be rough with no ac.... thankful for the seasons!

  10. I love a sunrise especially over the water. Your painting gives a calm cool effect which by reading your post is anything but what you're experiencing.
I hate to hear of trees being cut down especially if they aren't in need... just for aesthetics!
We should do a trade off... we have snow and woodlands and haven't felt heat or seen the sun (or even the sky for that matter) for over a week!
I'll get onto it right away...
In the meantime Happy PPF to you

  11. I love the water color. I too catch the painting shows on PBS. That is just way to hot with no trees to shade your room. Good luck on looking for a new place.
