Water Color on Canvas

Hi again,
What to do with so much rain? Water color! I completed two pictures I had drawn but not painted. So this afternoon, I listened to the monsoon (off and on - fast moving) and used my watercolor pencils. I love the way I can use water to obtain just the right colors.
The first one is from the old time Campbell's girl. And the second one is a picture of my best friend Dixie's backyard in IL. I usually put the pictures on Art By Us website. They are ACEO cards. I also offer them as prints for notecards. I have a number of Paris prints on notecards that everyone loves.
Since I am unable to send pictures to people w/o MAC, I will
be putting some other things on the blog. I hope you enjoy.
Thank you for stopping by.

Another Dress and Paintsticks, Foil

Hi,
We lost the FIFA Cup USA 2 and Brazil 3. However, this was our first time playing soccer at that level. We will be ready for World Cup next year. While watching FIFA (with bated breath) and then Nascar. I completed another yarn dress. The first small dress is 3 1/2 inches, the medium dress is 6 inches and the larger l (pink) dress is 8 inches (yarn and larger crochet hook). Question: how large of a hook would have
to be used for a size 12 in a regular dress!?
I have also included the paintstick rubbing on template over cloth and the foil ironed over adhesive. The pictures didn't scan really well, but it looks like I should have added more adhesive to make the foil more prominent. The Sat. guild class was so informative and fun that I wanted to share.
Thank you for stopping by.

Addendum Small Dress

Hi,
I wanted to show the same dress crocheted using smaller thread Size 10 as opposed to using yarn, albeit, smaller and softer than regular yarn and a larger crochet hook (F). I love experimenting with crochet and the different threads, yarns and fabric. The dress is the same pattern but 3 3/4 inches whereas the larger dress measures 6 inches. The smaller size needed smaller fingers -- difficult to crochet. The crochet hook I used for the small dress is the same size (8) I used to make the dolls.
Thank you for reading.

Crocheted Dress

Hi,
This may be a doll, I have not decided whether to keep the dress as a dress or to add the doll parts. The parts are to be cardboard, although it looks fine in the book, not sure if I want to use paper or use the dress as an applique for later. It has been interesting the looks I have come up with from the doll book.
The landscapers are finished, I have a big space which may be filled with a palm and grass, YAY!
I have practiced using stencils and made a couple of amazing doll faces. Then I used a rubbing plate and the paintsticks. Pretty neat designs. I am looking forward to the class Sat. My appetizer is in the refrigerator waiting to be put together first thing before going to guild meeting -- installation of officers and bring a dish. Then the class.. .. should be a very full and wonderful day tomorrow.
Soccer on Sunday. USA will play for the FIFA title against Brazil. Should be a really good game.
Have a great weekend.
Blessings,
Janet

Crochet: New Dolls and Embellishments

Hi,
I did not realize it had been so long since I checked in. I have been crocheting new dolls. They do not have clothes, embellishments or make up on. However, I wanted to you see what I have been doing while away. There are two different size hearts (I have crocheted faces) for pins and/or embellishments. There is a pair of hands with fingers, butterflies in different colors and leaves in 3 sizes for the flowers I had crocheted previously. Crocheting is very dear to my heart.
Happy days, the landscapers are here!!! We have all the old bushes cleared out and new plants and grasses will be planted shortly. Pictures will be coming once they are completed. This hasn't been done in the 10 years I have lived here. I miss doing the gardening, growing an herb garden and tomatoes. I cannot even have upside down tomatoes.
After I crochet many more butterflies, my next project is to become really good at embroidery. There are several projects waiting in the wings.
This Saturday after Quilt guild meeting, there is a class with Diane Smith, Fibersmith Arts, who will be teaching how to use paintsticks, foil, stencils and stamps on different fabrics, up to 12 fat quarters for experimenting. I talked with her on the phone and she has given me a tip on how to make a template into a doll face using the paintsticks. This is going to be a very fun class.
Thank you for stopping by.

Tie Bag II

Hi,
This is the other tie bag I mentioned yesterday. These are so fun to make and see how they will turn out.
I went to Bee last night and we are busy planning our bus trip to the west coast (FL) to the largest quilt shop in FL - Rainbow's End. Katy, our leader, always has many fun things for us to do in addition to quilt shop hopping. These trips are always fun with like-minded ladies. Katy usually has a good movie on these longer trips. We have one really good restaurant and always surprises. Three weeks to wait.
Now I will have to get back to my brown doll. I had to make a new head for her - so now I must sculpt her face and put her make up on.
ENJOY, thank you for stopping by.
Blessings,
Janet

Sewing up a storm - YAY!

Hi,
I have another bag done and one about completed. Look and see if you can find the cats. Ties are so much fun to play with. Linda makes dolls with her finds. Although I make dolls, that is one doll I haven't tried yet.
I first began making these tie bags because I have my daddy's old (favorite) tie that he left when visiting about 15 years ago. I keep it hung over my my bedroom mirror. I have been thinking all this time how to make it into something I can use. I love the idea of the tie bags. Now that I have started it is so much fun finding different kinds of thrift ties and completing them. I am still unsure of cutting his tie up, wherein a doll would cause so cutting.
I attended the First ASG Flea Market at Laura's Sew and Vac in the Gardens yesterday. What fun. I love the social part and to see what everyone is giving up. I did purchase silver embroidery hoops (hard to find nowadays) for my hand embroidery; a pillowcase doll to make and embroidery; and a couple of rooster patterns.
Thanks for looking.

Animal Shelter help

Hi,
Hurry on over to the KatillacShack and order your pups or puss scarf to help the animal shelter. This is a very worthy cause. Take a look at Kelee's website, what a fun place she has.
I am not able to get to IL this month but will go in October. I had hoped to put the kerchief on Yogi for the picture.
I have a scan of the wild art doll with the blue/pink/purple/yellow hair (previously mentioned). I will take a better picture of her once I dress her.
The Fashion Show on BRAVO is one great show with beginning designers that have brains and talent. It is exciting to go back stage with the designer Isaac Mizrahi and see how he thinks and judges the designers. Every Thursday at 10 p.m. eastern.
Thank you for stopping.
Blessings,

Inside Out Bag

Hi,
Since I have electricity in the sewing room, I have been busy. A gal at Bee decided she didn't want to continue making dolls and has given me a lot of her 'doll' stuff including some of here unfinished dolls. Well, I don't follow directions well, so, guess what, Wild Art Dolls coming up.
One gal has lavender, pink, yellow, well, you have the idea hair. And she really is adorable. . . pix later. I am half way through with the 2 dolls I had started and the naked girl has clothes (she was given to me by an older lady that didn't know what to do with a naked doll). Yikes when they find out you are the 'doll' lady . . . Having such a good time with it though.
My main project that was on hold because I could not find 1/4 inch black ruffle lace (and I still haven't, but did not want to hold up the project any longer) has been almost completed. I am anxious to show you and see what you think about it -- another tie bag. The original tie was beige, however, when I took it apart, I loved the inside better. So I made the bag from the inside of the tie and used the broad tip (right side out) as the closing flap (I have it arranged a bit different so you can see the colors in the beige tie. This is a Prince Igor tie. . . um Goodwill!!
Thanks for the visit. Let me know how you feel about the inside and/or outside use of the tie.
Blessings,
Jan

New Girl, 2 Butterflies and Angel wings

Hi,
These past two weeks I have been busy crocheting because my sewing room has not been available. The electric has now been restored. . . I know where the wires go and how it should work, nothing I really was interested in knowing. However, it gave me a chance to expunge things that did not belong in the sewing room. YAY!
A new doll crochet book came this week. I have tried two butterflies out of very different material and angel wings. I like the smaller version better for the lacy looking shrug I will be making for one of the lucky dolls. I have started the new crochet doll (actual doll not applique as the ladies were) from the book.
Thanks for stopping by.
Blessings,
Jan
